Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana

The Ministry of Power, Government of India has launched Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana for rural areas with the following objectives:

  • To provide electrification to all villages
  • Feeder separation to ensure sufficient power to farmers and regular supply to other consumers
  • Improvement of Sub-transmission and distribution network to improve the quality and reliability of the supply
  • Metering to reduce the losses

SAUBHAGYA (DDUGJY Addl Infra)

  • Saubhagya Yojana (Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana) focuses on last mile connectivity and electricity connections to all the unelectrified households in the country.
  • Saubhagya scheme is one of the world’s biggest Universal electrification initiatives with collaborative and concerted efforts of Centre and States.
  • It is a concurrent program to DDUGJY (Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana).
  • One of the salient features of Saubhagya Yojana is to Use Mobile App for identification of beneficiaries and electronic registration including requisite documentation and Web based near real-time monitoring and updating of progress.

Integrated Power Development Scheme

Ministry of Power, Government of India notified IPDS (Integrated Power Development Scheme) with following components:

  • Strengthening of sub-transmission and distribution networks in the urban areas.
  • Metering of distribution transformers / feeders / consumers in the urban areas.
  • IT enablement of distribution sector and strengthening of distribution network.
  • Schemes for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and IT enablement of balance urban towns.
  • Underground cabling to include additional demand of States and smart metering solution

National Electricity Fund Scheme

Government of India has approved the NEF (Interest Subsidy) Scheme with the following objectives:

  • To promote capital investment in the distribution sector by providing interest subsidy, linked with reform measures, on the loans taken by public and private power utilities for various capital works under Distribution projects.
  • This scheme is applicable in the entire country and all the works except the works covered under R-APDRP projects (to ensure non-duplication and non-overlapping of grant/subsidy towards investment).
  • NEF Scheme has the provision to provide interest subsidy and other charges for a period of 14 years on loans availed by distribution utilities in both public and private sector.

Who we are

  • The Ministry of Power is primarily responsible for the development of electrical energy in the country. The Ministry of Power started functioning independently with effect from 2nd July, 1992. Earlier it was known as the Ministry of Energy sources. Electricity is a concurrent subject at Entry 38 in List III of the seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India.
  • The Ministry is concerned with perspective planning, policy formulation, processing of projects for investment decision, monitoring of the implementation of power projects, training and manpower development and the administration and enactment of legislation in regard to thermal, hydro power generation, transmission and distribution.
  • The Ministry of Power is responsible for the Administration of the Electricity Act, 2003, the Energy Conservation Act , 2001 and to undertake such amendments to these Acts, as may be necessary from time to time, in conformity with the Government's policy objectives.
